Types of Protection Relays On The Motor

There are several types of relays used to protect the motor, namely in accordance with the function and how it works which consists of, among others:

Differential Relay (87)

Diffrential Relay is a relay that functions to compare two amounts of current and phase between two or more points on the boundaries of the relay safety area. This relay is used as the main protection to secure the motor from inter-phase short circuit or layer short circuit, which works at high speed to prevent further damage. Differential relay working principle is to compare the secondary currents of the current transformer (CT) installed on the terminals of protected electrical equipment / installations. But the differential relay on this multilin is only used as a signal receiver contact and in Suralaya itself it is not really used because each relay has direct access to the trip.

Relay Over current

An overcurrent relay is a relay that works based on an increase in current. based on an increase in the current through it, namely :

  • The principle of work and construction is quite simple, cheap and easy to set up.
  • To secure equipment against single phase short circuit to ground and can be used as overload protection.
  • As the main safeguard in the distribution network and radial sub-transmission system.
  • As a backup safety for generators, power transformers and transmission lines.

Over current relay types:

  • Instantaneous overcurrent relay
  • Current relay is more inversely proportional
  • Overcurrent relay specified time
